As the need for alternative forms of energy increases, the need for cost-effective alternatives increases as well. Cost is one of the biggest concerns that most nations have with alternative energy resources. The majority of alternatives have relatively high start-up and maintenance costs, which can make them unsuitable as a cost effective energy source.
Hydro power is the use of water to produce power. Traditionally, this has been done with the use of rivers by harnessing the power of their currents. This technology has worked in much the same way as that used to capture wind in that the current turns a turbine, which in turn causes gears to turn a generator and create electricity.
Providing electricity for the world’s population consumes quite a bit of energy. A lot of that energy is from coal and fossil fuels, things that will eventually be depleted on this Earth. Will it happen within your lifetime? Many people do not want to find out. Therefore, other forms of power have been investigated and are in fact in use all over the world with one of the most natural forms being that of wind power.
